Windows install (minor) gripe.

3 icons? One on the desktop, and 2 in the start menu? IMHO that's 2 too many

I don't see where you're getting two in the start menu from. It adds a start
menu group (strictly speaking, it's a program menu group, but I won't split
hairs) and a start menu icon (or direct shortcut), but that's not the same
thing as two icons in the start menu.

I feel this is not excessive, considering how trivially easy it is to delete
these (which is probably your best solution, no ???)

But as well as adding the Start menu group Start > Program Files > POV-Ray
for Windows 3.5, it also adds the *direct shortcut* Start > Program Files >
POV-Ray for Windows. This is definately unnecessary.

Anders

P.S. 3.5 beta 1, Win98, Athlon 700, 256 MB. I should add this to my
signature... :-)

Have you ever installed Microsoft Office 2000? :)

The POV-Ray sub-folder in Start > Programs is a bare minimum,
that every Windows program has used since Windows 95.

The POV-Ray icon in Start > Programs is perhaps redundant,
but saves one mouse "move". Major applications (Office, etc.)
use that also.

I'm told some persons use the desktop, so putting an icon there
is not a bad idea.

So IMHO, that's eventually 1 too many.

Well, two icons in the full heirachy of the start menu/whatever, plus the
desktop. Like I said, a minor gripe.

On a similiar note (and a generic problem with installs), could the contents of
the program group folder be explicitely indicated as pov resources? If one
elects to dump the contents into an existing folder, "readme" and "licence
agreement" become anonymous.

Are we still talking Windows here? I hardly understand you.

I find the desktop too agressive.
If I really want it on desktop, I can do it manually
(Or it can be asked during the installation).

The folder is fine, but everything in it should still be tagged with Povray.
(Readme, license, Tutorial, and so)

IMNSHO, the shortcut for povray should be in the folder.
If I want it top application, It is easy to move it.

Because every programs behave like a pig is no reason to do the same.
(Sorry, I do not want to offense pigs).

Sorry, that was a little obfusticated. The contents of the pov program group is:

Licence Agreement
Pov-Ray for Windows
Uninstall Pov-Ray for Windows
Read Me
Tutorial and Reference Manual

This is fine if they are inside the Pov-Ray programs folder. However, if, for
example, I elected to add the program icons to an existing folder called
"graphics", I will then have 3 entries in "graphics" that could belong to any of
my graphics programs: Read Me, Tutorial.., and Licence...
