I just downloaded build 0153 for the mac and some of the menus flicker.
The menu isn't being drawn, but the menu headers are flickering. It
starts with the file menu and switches to the render menu after I've
told it to render a file. It only starts after I've used a keyboard
command. If I use the menus the flickering doesn't appear.

This sounds like your keys get stuck and repeat the command over and over. As
you know, if you use a keyboard command in a menu, the menu title which
contains the item with the corresponding command gets activated for a short
time. So if you either have a wrong key repeat setting of some other reason
why the system thinks the key is still pressed you will see this problem. It
might also be some weird extension that messes around with your system.
However, one thing is for sure and that is that it cannot be a problem in
POV-Ray because the menu bar is handled by the operating system.

You're right. It was only happening in POV-Ray (I'm not finding anything
wrong with this program at all that you don't know about already). Today
a second application is getting the menu flicker. I found out that it
was the OSA Menu extension. I disable it and everything is peachy.
I guess I'm useless as a beta tester ; )
To be fair, I've seen programs that use the Mercutio MDEF cause problems
in other applications. Not recently, but I've seen it happen.

No, because now I know what causes this problem if someone else reports it!

Well, as those extensions have to mess around in the system to apply their
patch it isn't really surprising. And there are other applications that have
a habit of causing system-wide problems, too. One is Internet Explorer 5
which messes up scroll bar thumb colors in some other M$ applications :-(
