I tried to run the example file: cliche.pov but I get an error message on
line 94 saying the file sign.png is not found.

Pleas ignore this dumb message. I discovered I need to create the file
first. Sorry.

Yes, there are a few such scene files which either have a second pov file or
must be rendered in a certain way first (animated for example).
So please be aware of that.

The ones I know of are:

scenes\advanced\cliche\cliche.pov ~ sign.pov or sign2.pov
scenes\objects\crater.pov ~ crat_dat.pov
scenes\advanced\desk.pov ~ desk.ini (3 frames for photo)
scenes\textures\patterns\slopemt.pov ~ slopemt_dat.pov

Keep in mind that POV will save to BMP "out of the box" so you will have to
change your file output type to PNG in povray.ini first.

At least in sign.pov there are command line settings specified in the
header, which, when used, will create the output image in the correct
format.

Or do what I did and just change the scene file to use the .bmp instead :)
