When rendering an animation through .ini file or command line the system becomes
non-responsive. The clock starts and it claims to be rendering frame 1, but the
rendering window does not appear and the program stops responding and must be
closed.

I was able to run the tutorial animation one time after re-creating it, but now
no animations will run, even the samples.

Uninstall and re-install do not change the behavior.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Operating system? If it's Windows Vista it's a known problem. Try
reinstalling POV-Ray outside C:\Program files.

OS is Vista. I did install outside of C:/Program files.

Is there a fix for Vista? Or is this just one more bad mark for Vista?

Thanks.

The first time I started playing with animation a couple of months back
I ran into this problem. WIn Vista Home premium. Searching POV-RAY
support with very specific keywords presented me with a solution.

My installation is under C:\Program Files.

I cannot remember the exact wording of the solution, but it involved changing
the compatibility attributes of the pvengine.exe file.

Please locate that file whereever you had installed it, bring up its Properties
window, select Compatibility tab.

1. The first section is for Compatibility mode, seleck the check box reading
"Run this program in compatibility mode for, and in the multiple selection down
arrow select Windows XP (Service Pack2)"

2. In the Setting check box area, select "Disable Visual themes"

I believe these changes especially the first one was needed since v3.6 cannot
deal with multiple processors yet. Making those changes fixed my problems.

I hope I am remembering this corrrectly, and I hope this hint helps you.

Bingo Melo!

The fix works! Thanks much. I was Flash Disking the files back and forth
between Vista desktop and XP laptop. The fix saves me a lot of time and
frustration.

Thanks again.
