I bought a $10 CD with a video editing program on it. It's crap compared to
TMPGEnc. The animation was 24 MB for what should be 2 MB.

I don't think you can call a program "crap" simply because it has
different default settings than another program.
I suppose that the author of the program felt that the quality of the
animation should be high by default.
