Um, just to be sure here... tank as container, or the kind that is a
vehicle? Your words are not exactly enough to describe what you meant.

Thank you for your reply.
Sorry to make you feel confused. The tank I mean is a vehicle not a
container.
I want to design a scene which contains a tank and a hill. And then make the
tank rounding with the hill. The hill should be tall enough to make the tank
hidden sometimes. I do not know how to design a hill and a tank, could you
please tell me where I can find some source files(.pov or .inc) about these
two objects? Thanks
Best Regards

The tank is a vehicle using in the war not a containter. And the tank moves
round a hill not rounds a hill.

A hill and other simple land formations can be created with a height field
object (look up "height field" in the documentation, which can be reached by
pressing the "scene" button on the toolbar). You'll have to create an image
in another program to represent the hill as shades of grey. Again, check the
documentation for more help on that.

The tank will be much more difficult. If you have a separate modelling
program, then you may want to use it. Otherwise, you'll have to use CSG with
primitives such as boxes, spheres, and cylinders, in order to "build" the
tank. If these concepts are unfamiliar to you, then I suggest that you first
go through the "beginners tutorial" in the documentation, which explains all
of this.

What was the point of this message? I don't think anybody asked what's more
annoying. The question here is about the tank vehicle and the hill it will
move on.

All the best

Fidel.

well well, I meant to say that putting answers before
the questions can be troublesome for some, because at least
in the Western cultures people have got used to reading
from top to bottom and from left to right.

<rant>

now, if everyone top-posted, people would have to start
reading posts from bottom to top. :)
add to that scrolling the post up and down _and_ figuring out
into which sentence the answer was, because no quoting
had been done.

I am not wanting to start a holy war (top-posting vs bottom-posting)
but _sometimes_ top-posts can be confusing and hard to follow.

A Tank is quite a complex thing to model, especially for one who is
just starting to use PovRay. You can code it directly into PovRay or
you can use a Modeller such as Moray
http://www.stmuc.com/moray/index.html
or Blender http://www.blender3d.org/ to build it using a graphical
interface. Blender is free and Moray is shareware (80 euros). I use
Moray it is very good worth the price and getting better. A word of
warning do not use a Modeller without learning the basics of PovRay
or you will regret it. Try to build your tank out of two boxes and a
cylinder then animate it to start with.
As for models of tanks, and all things military try this site for
meshes.
http://www.3dcafe.com/asp/military.asp , look for 3DS and convert it
with 3DWin http://www.tb-software.com/

Best of luck and I hope you have plenty of time.

Stephen
