Does someone have any experience in creating a Flash to cover the appearance
of a new Object? Something looking like appearance of Q in Star Trek - Next
Generation? I tried some interior effects, but the results are not quite
satisfying.

thanks in advance

Possibly a centrally opaque lens flare would be okay. Simply use
either the Nathan Kopp or Chris Colefax *.Inc and set the
filter/transmit part to vary as you want. Of course this means making
changes to the scripts perhaps but probably just to add a new custom
flare. Reason this would be good is that the flares are camera-based
and can be oriented to overlay an object in your scene. If your
wanting a object shape defined "flash" I could only suggest rendering
the object alone scaled upward some (centering important) with a
single flat texture (+q0 command line option might do) and then
overlay that as a filtered 'image_map' over a normally rendered
image_map of your scene.
