I agree completely with this part. Unnecessary crossposting is both
rude and, well, unnecessary. Especially when it's crossposting of binaries
to non-binaries groups.

Actually, if the news software is implemented correctly, it only stores
one copy of the article and keeps pointers to it in the various group
databases. That's what the xref header is all about. One of the worst
problems with massive crossposting, in my mind, is that some people will
modify the followup-to header (as I have, followups to p.a-u.) and
branch the discussion in multiple ways. Following the entire discussion
can get hard at that point. The other problem, and the reason I've cut
this back to one group, is that many newsreaders can't automatically
eliminate crossposted articles that have been read once, so I end up
reading every article in this thread in every group it's posted to
when I use Agent. Most everyone here is subscribed to most if not all
of the groups, so discussing the problem only in the most appropriate
group usually will reach someone with an answer.

I agree wholeheartedly with this part, too.

Ron,

Get the Agent 1.6 trial, the update is free. Even if you're using 1.5
(yes I see the slrn in there but you mentioned Agent :) ), have you
set up the crossposting handling in the Crossposts tab in
Group/Default Properties? It works fine for me.

Well, let me be the first to admit when I'm wrong. For some reason I thought that
you
had a glorious tera-byte sized fibre optic array on the backend just because of the
size
of the posts to the animations group. Don't hesitate to walk over and tap me on the
forehead and say "Now now, that will be enough of that."

In any case, maybe I'll stick to this group. Although, thus far, I have yet to get
my
fluid animation looking the way I expected. What I find most surprising is that the
color
red and green mix together to form black. At least that's what I have so far.

I'm pretty sure I have. Now I'll have to go look again. Next time
I'm using Agent, that is. :)

I was just looking at that page and was wondering if the CD included the official
binaries. I typically run all my animation/renders on Sun hardware so I am a bit
miffed
that there is no official build of 3.1g by the POV-Ray team for Solaris 7 on
UltraSparc.
There really are a lot of Sun machines sitting about idle at most universities and
since I
have access to a computer lab full of them I sort of expect that a Sun Solaris 7 build
should be on the CD. How hard can it be to compile it and mark it official?

It's not that hard at all. Send me (or some other Team member) an
UltraSparc with Solaris 7 and a C compiler and We'll throw one together
for you.

You mean to say that the only thing stopping you is hardware availability?

Geez ... I'm certain that Sun will lend you a Sun Ultra 2 for the purpose. It
wouldn't
take more than a week to get the build optimized and ready to roll. Where are you
located
though? Australia?

A pure red filter removes none of the red, all of the green and all of the
blue. A pure green filter removes all of the red, none of the green and all
of the blue. Together they remove all the red, all the green and all the
blue.

I guess that I need to think of the objects as actual physical filters and not the
addition of different wavelengths of light. I would expect the addition of red green
and
blue to be white when in fact it acts like black. The absence of any transmitted or
reflected light. Perhaps if I used blob components that always had a value of 1.0 for
red
or green or blue. I wonder ....
