It's a good program, but very complex to use. I've been trying to learn
it off and on for a couple of years now (more off than on as it happens)
and once you get the hang of it, it's not very difficult to use.
I use a combination of Blender, Wings3D, and Moray myself. And the
occasional bit of raw SDL.
