The plugin is still very much a work in process, so things may change.
> Can you use blobs instead cylinders?
Cylinders are only being used at the start, as I work on the basic plugin.
Yes I very much want to add a better looking character (CSG, blobs,
isosurface...)

I'm thinking I will export the positions of the various parts in an array,
and have an include file use this to make the character. This way the plugin
will only be for positioning the parts.
Predefined poses would be saved as a pluginobject and merged into the
current scene.

Manikin1a2.zip now available linked form
http://ca.geocities.com/morayplugin/
Manikin1a2.zip 20k
Manikin.lua (requires Helper.lua)
testjunkmanikin2.mdl
Manikin_blob.inc
Manikin_cylinder.inc
The include files need to be placed for POV-Ray to find them.
Example:
C:\Program Files\Moray For Windows\Mdl
for the scene file, and
C:\Program Files\Moray For Windows\POVScn
for the include files.
The attached picture from left to right:
Default cylinders from the plugin
Cylinders from Manikin_cylinder.inc
Blobs from Manikin_blob.inc (last two)
If the 'external definition file' is empty then the default cylinders are
used. If you provide a file name (do not use an extension) it will be used.

No, but on my todo list.

I would like this, but don't know how I can do it.

Stephen,
I just read the thread; I have a pair of manniquins with IK possibilities
(the kind you find in drawing classrooms). Would you be interested to have
them, to include in the plugin or whatever?

Yes, I would be interested in seeing how things are setup, and how mine
compare.

Here is the couple.
There are two ways to move them around, one is with the IK-button, then
grasping an extremity (hand or foot or head) and move them with the mouse.
Watch the manniquins following the movements. The second method is more
precise IMO: select member parts in the browser and change the rotation
values by hand. It is more work intensive but gives better end results.
