Am I the only one who notices something strange here?
Yes, the image is good, but is it really the *best* image of all?
There must be something I'm not getting here...

I agree. No offense to the winner, of course, since it was a good image, but
it really wasn't the best. I think voters must have been impressed by high
radiosity settings.

No. Not agreed. Let it be sayd this way: if I would have been forced to select
one of the entries as a poster, Gena's image is definitely the only one I would
love to see hanging on one of my walls.
But anyway, no problem if you like some other images more...

In my opinion, the best image is the other one from Gena,
called "the sunset", the one with the man walking the dog.
Just my opinion.

What one person calls the "best" doesn't necessarily equate the best in the
general view. The voting of the IRTC is a (somewhat*) democrat process, so
in my view, whatever is voted the best for the round, is the best no matter
my personal opinions on the image.
*By somewhat I just mean that not everyone can vote, you have to be an
entrant or panel judge.

This has already been discussed in p.g. and irtc.g. Which image is really
the best is something that has to be decided by the individual voters.
And i don't think there is anything strange about considering this image
as the best in this round.
What makes it somewhat different from most past winners is the quite
minimal design in terms of textures and the restriction on one singular
geometry element, namely the houses. But for me this would not reduce the
rating in any of the three categories.

I like the image very much, although the flaws *are* distracting. I think
the question is: "What kind of sick massochist would make an image like that
with csg difference?" A mesh version would have rendered in a few seconds
without radiosity.
