I'm currently running a test render of my scene, and it should be done by
tomorrow. Is anyone here interested in taking a look at it? I have enough
of the scene complete that I know what I want to do with it, but I'd like to
hear what other people think early enough that I can avoid mistakes
I might be blind to.

Some time ago, I've read a book with a collection of Da Vinci
writtings (well, "suposed" Da Vinci writtings), and some chapters were
dedicated to teach painters how to work. For the problem of being blind
to one mistakes, Leonardo recommended to look at your picture trough a
mirror. The unusual point of view helps to find things we were missing,
bcos we examine it more carefully, as if it were the first time that we
see that picture.

I tried it my self, obviously not looking trough a mirror, but
flipping horizontally the image in a paint program, an it do works!
Also, for non-centered compositions, it helps to find if your particular
arrangement looks better from left to right or viceversa. It can sound
stupid, but in some scenes there is a difference, altough I can't tell
where it resides.

You should post it to povray.binaries.images, lots of other irtc entrants do
(including the most recent winner) and it's often very helpful.

I have nothing against such approach but...

As for me, I believe making images is very intimate process
and this is not a collective art as ballet for example.

Tastes differ and it's impossible to satisfy all of them.

I think you cannot consider that image as 100% yours if
you followed recommendations from other people. At least,
you have to mention all of them as authors in image's description.
Especially, if nothing left from your original image.

You will know all your mistales reading comments after closing
round :) And you can correct your mistakes in your next image.
I think this is normal and creative process.

Again, this is just my humble opinion.

Gena.

Some other aspects of that approach...

I think this is very tricky situation for judges. Because I think
many people who will comment your image are IRTC judges.
And in that case judging your image they judge themselves as
well :)

Another point - it works like TV commercials. Multiple posting
of the image makes it subconscious and recognizable.

This is just my humble opinion.

Gena.
