GIF's are a step backward in that many people with Netscape browsers cannot
see them. When I download them, it just plays through one time really
clunkily and I cannot repeat it.

GIF is an archaic format that is being replaced by PNG.  As raytracers,
being on the cutting edge of new technologies, we should encourage the death
of obsolete formats, especially if the formats have been plagued by
Microsoft-like antics by their copyright owners.
