Does the present admin situation prevent the next topic from being
published?

If not, I would be grateful if the topic were chosen and announced.

John

I second that.

Also, it'd be nice to know if there's some plan for continuing the IRTC
in its current form? (apart from "waiting indefinitely for admin to reply"?)

Uh, by the way, anyone already started with our for-fun stand-in topic
of "Space Settlements"? (see postings at irtc.animations around Jan. 30)

I've started modeling a ring-type space station (and really do wish i
knew how to handle advanced scripting, because decorating something like
that with all those little tubes and edges and blinkenlights by hand is
going to be ... ugh ...), but i'd be happy to have/work on an official
IRTC topic, nonetheless. There's always a chance to slip in your
pre-made space station into another topic, anyway :)

randomly...

Yes, a "double-blind random draw" - i had an random list of all visible
IRTC topic suggestions, and dbott picked a number...

In a way, Space Settlements is a "Barnum" topic - "something for anyone"
(like the way horoscopes usually "are right" ;). Wether you're good at
creating procedural landscapes, or elaborate machinery - wrap it in a
ring, or a sphere, or a cube, or a pipe - and presto: instant space
settlement :)

Oh my. Since this is animations, i'm afraid we may be swamped with
pre-made Babylon 5 downloadable models ;)

Apart from that, it could be something on a planet (inflatable domes?)
or the classic "ring-in-space" design, a random cluster of
welded-together wrecks ("Titan A.E.", anyone? ;) ...

Topic also lends itself well to scenes with robots, i'd guess ;)

>> greeble <<

Is there an equivalent word for audio-greeble? - I was watching the DVD of
Alien a couple of nights ago and its full of sound-greebles, like since
when has a computer monitor ever made the sound of a tele-type? (but hey
why let reality get in the way of good effects...

Yes, I agree, it would be nice to know what irtc's future is looking
like....
And yes, I have started on my space settlement animation. I have a nice
little
scenario to go along with it. Once again, irtc was motivating me to use POV,
and MORAY (which is now part of POV...very cool). But if the irtc turns
to cyber dust, I'll go back to my c++ programming and work on my
raycasting engine. Which I was doing before I discovered all these rendering
programs.

I liked the irtc format the way it was. I like the consistency. And, it is
intriguing to have
a longer and more sophisticated competition on top of the original format.

O-Well, I have offered to help out as a admin. I am not out for any
personal or financial gain. It would be nice to see the irtc continue on.
It is an important motivating venue for learning and feedback in this
medium.
On top of that it has attracted many unique people.

All right, I am going back to my space settlement.........
