povray.bugreports is a moderated group so your post won't show up
there unless it's a confirmed bug. Please repost your source in one of
the scene files groups.

With a camera angle of 1, the camera must be quite far from the
object. This may cause accuracy problems with complex shapes. Have you
tried any of the following?

1) a quartic torus (in shapesq.inc, I think)
2) an isosurface torus
3) sturm
